Landscaping Design Process in San Diego

The Evolution of the Landscape Process

The landscape process begins with an in-depth consultation.  San Diego area landscape designer Steve Harbour meets with clients on site to learn their aspirations for the outdoor environment and to give preliminary ideas and thoughts of what he believes are the possibilities for the design.   From this initial meeting, Steve creates awritten design proposal listing the scope of the design work to be included, the documents and meetings to be expected, and the related costs of the design package.
Once the clients accept the design proposal, the work begins.  Documents, measurements, and photos are obtained detailing the property in a site survey.  A plot plan is then produced in scale of the area to be designed show all pertinent existing features.  Once the plot plan is complete, a design study begins which determines what features and plants are best suited for the site.  From this study, an intial or preliminary design plan is created on paper showing Steve’s conceptual ideas for the property.  This document provides the opportunity to hold the first  presentation meeting with the clients where the preliminary landscape plan is described by Steve, with the clients giving their opinions on the new plan.
Once this meeting is completed, it is back to the drafting table where the plan is revised  and all necessary details are added.  The revised, detailed plan of one or more pages is typically the final landscape plan produced in the design process, although complex landscapes can require addtional plans and reviews.  A second design review meeting is scheduled with the clients  once the  landscape plan is ready, which typically completes the design process, although Steve typically stays involved as needed throughout the project, assisting with bid review, on-site changes, material selections, plant and garden accent placement, and any other pertinent matters.
.   It produces an ample reward for all the hard work and time invested by all.
