Water Elements

Steve Harbour

Landscape Designer Steve Harbour Custom designed water features include pools, spas, creeks, ponds, waterfalls, fountains, and even dry or seasonal creekbeds. Because of the lack of natural bodies of fresh water combined with a year-around mild climate, water features seem even more desirable in San Diego than other locals. Steve Harbour has designed a number of notable water features into landscapes in the San Diego area. The pool glimers with the reflection of a coastal canyon just out of sight in the photo. This spa sits just outside the entertaining area of the home, making the raised spillway of veneer stone a cascading water feature. The raised walls sit at a perfect height for seating.

The client had found vintage bronze fish spitters. Steve designed the fountain as a focal point by the existing pool. The dry-stacked stone hides the pump and tubing.
This complete renovation included raising the spa wall and creating a cascading waterfall, adding large steps into the pool, and adding all new coping and plaster. The patio was expanded for more entertainment space.
The fountain centers a courtyard in this rustic setting off a guest house.
A small garden pool and garden were designed around a homeowner’s custom iron piece. Streams of water cascade from the ironwork, helping to reduce noise from the nearby park and townhouses.

This fountain was designed and built from the ground up. It breaks the monotony of a long retaining wall. The outer wall of the water basin doubles as a seating wall.

This waterfall creates white noise to hide the sounds of a busy street in the front yard. The pathway goes to a kitchen garden that supplies the owner with fresh herbs and vegetables year-around.
